Were the Disciples armed?

We have been studying and discussing Jesus and his disciples. In particular the twelve. One of the questions that came up was 'were the disciples armed'. It is quite interesting as we know that Peter carried a sword. With what knowledge I have of human nature and men in particular, it seems obvious that the other disciples were probably armed to some degree as well.

Consider this:

I. If a man has a sword, knife, gun (whatever) his friends want one.
2. They were in a country at war, wandering all over in places where harm could come to them.
3. Jesus told Peter not to put his trust in his sword, but he never said don't carry a sword.
4. The sword would have been quite practicle for daily activities like cutting corn from the field!

I have never seen an artist portrayal of the disciples that was accurrate and portrayed the disciples as an armed band which they were.

As do I. The wider subject and the point is that people really don't see the bible as it happened. I am often surprized by people who know better who say things like:

A. Apostle Paul was not married
B. Abraham only had one wife
C. Jesus was baptized to wash away his sins

and lots more of things like this...

I wonder where they have been or who was teaching them. This is not to belittle anyone but rather to challenge those here to make sure we are doing a better job of presenting the 'whole gospel'.

I believe that most people view disciples and being discipled as being childish, or for beginners. The truth is, discipleship never ends. When our hands are being trained for real warfare, it's only then that we've stepped into any depth of faith. Where we can be rightly submitted to each other, discipleship becomes the School of the Holy Spirit. There is nothing He leaves undone or unveiled. We're more fully equipped and prepared through a corporate body where greater ministry is operating through the Kingdom. I don't believe there is any greater adventure than being discipled in spirit led fellowship and ministry.

THE DISCIPLES WERE ARM AND THERE IS NO BEATING AROUND THE BUSH ABOUT THIS. PETER WAS NOT A MAGICIAN TO CALL A SPIRITUAL SWORD UP TO CUT OFF THAT MAN EAR ON THE NIGHT JESUS WAS ARRESTED. NO THE QUESTION SHOULD NOT BE IF THEY WERE ARM BUT WHY?
